Vegan in The Berkshires
The Berkshires is geographic region located in Western Massachusetts known for its gorgeous scenery and numerous quaint towns. Due to the numerous small villages and towns, we’ve decided to group this region into one vegan city guide.
Dining and Drinks
You will find plenty of vegan-friendly options in the Berkshires. During the summer, there are also a plethora of farmer’s markets to get local fruits and vegetables.
For this city guide we’ve reviewed two Indian restaurants. However, there are a ton of restaurants around the area aside from the ones we’ve mentioned. The town of Great Barrington is a great place to spend your time away from the business of everyday life. With many great restaurants to choose from. Aroma Bar & Grill is an Indian restaurant with many vegan options. Check out their lunch special which is very reasonably priced and offers a large potion food. Make sure to get the Roti instead of the Nan which is not vegan nor is the Raita. If you love Indian food you’ll love the menu and lunch buffet at Spice Root, an Indian restaurant in Williamstown. With a plethora of vegan-friendly options on their menu, you might just leave here in a food coma!
If you're driving through Pittsfield definitely check out Thrive Diner which is an all-vegan restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious and there are tons of vegan options to choose from.
Activities and Entertainment
The Berkshires offer a ton of entertainment, especially throughout the summer months. Check out their events calendar here. You can also check out the Barrington Stage Company located in downtown Pittsfield which boasts a plethora of shows.
One of the most famous things the Berkshires is known for are its numerous hiking trails. Make sure to cover up and guard against ticks as Lyme Disease is prevalent in the region. If you develop a bull’s eye rash or flu like symptoms after being in the region, make sure you let your health care provider know you’ve been in an area where Lyme is endemic.
There Ashuwillticook Rail trail in an incredible biking and walking 11.2-mile trail that runs through the towns of Adams, Lanseborough and Cheshire. There are plenty of sites to see along the trail including wetlands, wildlife, and waterways. There is a bike rental shop in Adams. Check out the hiking and biking guide here.
Kripalu, located in Stockbridge, is a world-famous center for yoga, health, and wellness. Offering a plethora of activities, retreats, and classes, if you are a yogi you don’t want to miss Kripalu!
Grocery
There are several chain grocery stores throughout the Berkshires which a plethora of plant-based proteins, dairy-free ice-creams and local produce. You can check out Big Yand Stop & Shop which both have multiple locations throughout the area.
Wal-Mart and Target are also prevalent throughout Berkshire County and offer up many vegan-friendly options as well. You’ll also find local grocery stores which offer more organic and holistic products throughout the area. One local grocery store which serves up a ton of vegan food is Guido's. They have an amazing salad bar, tons of vegan food, and they even have a vegan cheese pizza!There's a ton of vegan-friendly food and activities in the Berkshires!
